I'm in good company when it comes to enjoying Yunnan black teas. I always love to sample them and usually have at least one Yunnan in my permanent repertoire. Tealicious offers a Royal Yunnan that was a pleasure to review. The leaves are medium long, mostly black in color with some tan leaves here and there and mostly open form with a light curl to them. The dry leaf smells sweet.

I steeped one teaspoon of leaf in 8 ounces of just off the boil water for three minutes.

The liquor is very dark brown with a glowing golden red rim around the edge of the cup. The flavor is excellent. There's a deep and luscious quality to the tea, it's got great body and a slightly viscous feel to it. There's a slightly smoky undertone pervading. Light sweetener brings out a really intense smoky sweet burnt sugar flavor that for me is the hallmark in any Yunnan. This is a sweet and luxurious offering.

Unsweetened, you can pick up a natural sweet goodness with a lovely amount of astringency. There's a clean, smooth and sweet lingering taste in the mouth. In an unsweetened cup (highly recommended) there's a mingling of the caramel and smokiness that is really superb. Very enjoyable cup.
